Signs
I'm in the process of ordering panel signs for my buildings and am wondering if I can keep my existing posts. My sign person says they have to go but I don't understand why this would be the case.
You are going to have to elaborate some.
Are you trying to sell your building or have an apartment entrance sign or small signs in the ground for leasing??
I haven't seen your signs or the condition of your current posts or your sign ordinances of how they can be installed and displayed so really no way to answer.

Just purchased the property and want to make up new signs that will have the name of propety, I need three signs in all. The posts aren't very old so I'm left wondering why they would need changing.
My sign person says" Reusing the existing posts will not work as they are dato/grooved and odds of getting fit for new panels are not going to work. Repointing and painting and getting to stand upright will not be of quality and cost more than new".
They could be saying that because they do not want to extra hassle of making something work or it could actually cost more that way or both.
Solution is to get 1 or 2 more sign people out and get a second or third opinion. If it's the same thing over and over then it probably is valid and the only thing to discuss is who is going to do it and for what price.
Make sure the sign complies with the county and also the city if within the limits otherwise you could have to redo the signs again to be in compliance and pay double the money or face fines.

The old sign for example might have been grandfathered in or the sign was put up and code enforcement didn't know it is non-compliant. Make sure that your sign meets height and width restrictions etc. and that it doesn't have to be installed a certain way and a certain distance off the road and away from utilities, etc.
