Any advice on REO and online wholesaling business?

I want to start a property preservation and online wholesaling business. I have tried to start a property preservation business in the past, but it failed in my small town because everyone was already using Servepro and another franchise to do all of that for them at the time. I feel I could have gotten jobs in bigger cities, but I couldn't and still can't drive an hour and a half just to do these jobs. So, this time, I would like to begin with online wholesaling and then transition to property preservation later once I have more free time to do it. 

I have heard of people being successful with wholesaling completely online and I would like to go that route because, again, I live in a small town and not much is going on, even foreclosures and preforeclosures that are good enough to wholesale (or if there are any, they're being snatched up by realtors with access to the MLS.) Either way, I would like any advice on how to begin wholesaling either completely online or maybe in my local area and/or some insight on how to better break into the property preservation business.
