Amazon HQ2 is back in play! Bezos tells NYC "buh bye!"
Wow. Trying to leave politics out of this, but just being excited about Boston having another shot at HQ2!
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/ocasio-cortez-cel...
Silly politicians talked themselves out of a lot of jobs.
Another reason to invest everywhere else but New York.
However Warren didn't support them either :/
This is NYC... the jobs that would have been added would only represent a very TINY percentage of overall jobs.
If Amazon went to say, Buffalo, that would have a HUGE impact.
Given that though, I would hate to be the person that had bought a Long Island City Condo because of the HQ2 win only to find out today that it was rescinded!
That also reminded me of the L-Train Shut down announcement. That too was rescinded!
Really, for any major metro like NYC, you should probably wait until the ground breaks before you buy in anticipation of future economic rewards from a project that is still in it's planning stage.
You may not get the lowest price if the plan actually gets built, but you certainly avoid a possible delay or canceling of these projects.
Better to be safe than sorry!
Petty sure they said there wouldn’t be another hq2. Just Virginia and Nashville or wherever their other hub down south was going to be.
NY and NYC are unfriendly to business.
Amazon put on a clinic on why you should buy for cash flow
Read the article in full. Doesn't mention anything about them trying to open another HQ2 like what they are building in VA.
"Amazon said it would proceed as planned with the second part of its HQ2, which will be built in Northern Virginia, as well as its distribution center that it said it would open in Nashville. It will also continue to "hire and grow across our 17 corporate offices and tech hubs in the U.S. and Canada."

I think Austin was on the list at one time.
Please please for the love of everything good in this world please don't pick Texas.
@Daniel Weber
Precisely. The site selected in Nashville (I live here) is a 15 ac. redevelopment project on the edge of downtown. Much of it vertical - my sense is Amazon will expand planned operations in N Va & Nashville, not investing the more time in to another HQ2 search. They picked these two for good reasons - good enough to make a larger investment.
@Lucius Carroll
Agreed, I'm in clarksville. I think one major benefit to the Nashville area is the ability to expand, the state and local gov being business friendly, and the recruiting possibilities for jobs.
@Charlie MacPherson I saw an article that said amazon wasn’t looking for another location even after backing out

@Jordan Moorhead Oh well....we can alway dream, right?
@Charlie MacPherson thank you for sharing this i found this post really interesting!
There is nothing political about money going where it is treated best. It has always been that way.
Another nail in NYs coffin. The hostility towards Amazon, including the extreme ignorance around tax abatements, is a MASSIVE red flashing light to any other businesses, warning them to stay away from starting or expanding their businesses in NY (I'm talking the entire state).
NY is generally business/development unfriendly, this just takes it to the next level.
Any company looking to spend capital will certainly not spend the time and money to even consider NY for a short list now.
Ocasio and her merry band of communists have just cost this state hundreds of billions in GDP. Mission accomplished, I guess.
This whole thing was just blatant stupidity.
AOC and her idiots don’t know how any of this actually works.
Amazon has a lot of the blame as well for making it into a Hunger Games with cities pitted against each other. Bad PR move for them.
Plenty of businesses have received similar incentives in the recent past, no one is stupid enough to publicize it like Amazon.

The problem with socialism is eventually you run out of other people’s money - Margaret thatcher
I am not a fan of all these billion dollar tax breaks to companies rolling in the huge corporate profits unless they then open these tax breaks to the other smaller companies in the same area. They are basically saying we don't care about our current local employers, we only care about new money. It is greedy and I am not a fan.
@David Ferrette
They have been offering tax breaks to smaller businesses through the Startup NY program that used to be advertised here in Texas all the time. Because lots of New Yorkers have fled here. Lol.

The problem is that when you look at the list of exclusions, pretty much every type of business is excluded.
Madness.
@Charlie MacPherson it would be nice to see boston get a shot at HQ2!!!
