Struggling to Network

Are there any good networking resources (i.e. books, or blog post) that have personally defined or changed your actions towards networking? Networking is a weakness for me, and I'm sure others could benefit from suggestions that could enrich their business as well.

Read this: "The (7L) the Seven Levels of Communication: Go from Relationships to Referrals", this book definitely helped me. Good luck!

Bring a friend to network with. A wingman is very helpful when picking up women or finding new people with business knowledge.

Networking in Washougal, now there has got to be a book in that somehow. Solution: Hop into a car and go into Portland and join the REIA.

Thank you everyone for the great advice and book suggestion, my networking skills will expand implementing these. Matthew Teifke my biggest challenge with networking is that I am introverted, so I need to somehow compliment the two together.

If you spend more time marketing you won't really need to network as much. Have you put a lot of time & energy into a direct mail campaign? YouTube channel? Instagram profile? etc.... Also don't forget about Bigger Pockets. I've made well over 7 figures right here on Bigger Pockets.

@Corey Porter , everyone LOVES to talk about themselves. Get yourself to a meetup, walk up to someone and ask them what kind of investing they do or what kind they'd like to do.

If you'd rather,  ask questions here on the forums. You obviously like real estate - you're among friends here. We've got more than 900,000 members who all love real estate, too. Reach out to someone who gives great advice - and compliment them. Tell them that you think they give great advice, and send that message in a colleague request.

Your Pro membership allows you to search for other members by zip code. Check out anyone who is near you  and send them requests too.

@Mark Updegraff shares an excellent networking tip on his episode 112 of the BiggerPockets Podcast, where he searches BiggerPockets for his local zip code and PMs everyone near him. It's a great way to build a local network.

I've found the best way to get started with networking is to strike up conversations with a waiter or the person making you coffee at a coffee shop. This doesn't so much bring opportunities as it does get you used to approaching and having a conversation with a stranger.

Once you get comfortable you can start doing this with people you work with and others you meet at networking events, when sitting on a train etc.

I've met people with similar real estate goals to me this way and found plenty of great tips as well as expanded my network from almost zero.

Hi

I as well just think that conversing with others and showing real interest in their jobs, life and endeavors goes a long way. So a key to me is to listen attentively to the person I am talking with and give inputs but let them talk about 90% of the time and in the conversation I tell them what I do, I found that 9 out of 10 people if you show Real interest will eventually ask you what your profession is. So start chatting up people no matter who, young, old, men or women, I mean all.
