I am an NJ realtor and was wondering if it possible to have a partner in a different office but working for the same company? ex: I work in office "A" my partner works in office "B" we share each other sales how ever we decide. Is this illegal?

Really depends on your broker. If you are paying each other as referral commissions then I do not see any issues with it from a brokerage perspective.

Good answer from @Ankit Duggal. That would be the simplest manner in getting it done. The issue thought would be if you're trying to market yourself as a team working out of two locations. Why not just talk to your managing broker and ask them how you should get it done? That would have been my first step before asking anyone here on BP.

Ask you broker. But, you really can't be paying each other directly, any payments to an agent must come from their broker. Of course you can be a "team" and being in different offices could have some advantages.

I figured it may be safest to ask the question on biggerpockets first because my Broker of records may be more inclined to take a path that involves having my partner join the office I am in. There could be a bias towards pushing joining my office since it would be one more member on the team.
