About us
When I confronted an uncomfortable truth, there was no turning back. Through reclaiming and rebuilding my life, I uncovered the person I always knew I could be. As I sat up in bed, light snuck around the edges of the curtains, and I was hit with a sudden awareness. In that moment, I realized I was an addict. I was the last one to notice, though my life was already in shambles. Once I realized it, however, I was ready to take my life back. About two years before that morning, I was more successful than I ever could have imagined. I was running two real estate offices, one here in Kansas City and one in Connecticut where I grew up, selling around 200 properties per year. Then, I lost sight of my core values, and my life began to spiral. My divorce hit me like a ton of bricks. I started spending more time with friends who were not the best influences. After several poor choices along the way, that path led me to becoming an addict. When I woke up and confronted the truth, I recognized if I stayed on that path, things could only end one way for me. I wanted to make real change and knew traditional methods would not work for me with their high relapse rates. I found an alternative program with an 87% success rate and signed up. After seven days of treatment, I was clean and never looked back. Once I came home, I still had to rebuild my entire life. Kelley, my girlfriend at the time and now my wife, stuck with me through all of it. Working on myself full force, I did everything I could to improve myself physically and mentally, from biking to meditation. I dove deep into what it meant to me to be a human. At the same time, I slowly began rebuilding my real estate career. I faced bankruptcy and multiple foreclosures, but real estate was the only way forward for me. After a career in construction and four and a half years in the Marines, real estate was my life. It is what I know and love. Since 2004, this industry has been my focus. After a brief time in loans, I found a passion for working as an agent. I loved being able to positively impact others' lives. Through the ups and downs in the market, I never missed a beat. However, I had more success than I bargained for, having grown up in a home where we could barely keep food on the table. I lost sight of where I came from, who I was, and those around me. While rebuilding my life, all of that became clear once again as my priorities shifted. We had our son, Ossian, in 2019, and fatherhood has been the most spectacular gift. My priorities now are my relationships with others and how people in the world know me-hopefully as a caring listener. That is how I define success today, whereas before it came down to numbers. I am proud of where I am today, that I got clean from addiction and now have a successful business and growing family. We all face different struggles in our lives. There are so many people out there still struggling with a story like mine. All I can aspire to through sharing my experience and my work in real estate is to plant a seed of hope and leave a positive impact. Whenever I am not working,I enjoy hiking, traveling, running, and skiing. My favorite part of being a REALTOR® is developing new friendships and strengthening those I already have. My number one intention for our relationship is to be the calm in the center of the storm. Through the course of any transaction, many things can arise, but I will always be here to provide solutions, encouragement and a listening ear. Working alongside my tight-knit team of experts, we will provide 24/7 support for you throughout this process. have been through the highs and lows in real estate both professionally and personally. I know how to maximize your return on a property and what projects are not worth your time. From decluttering to a complete remodel, I can provide guidance on which options would best fit your needs. I came to real estate from construction and have put in many sweat equity hours on properties myself, providing this unique insight into structures. With an investor's mindset and unlimited support, I will help you reach your goals. I have extensive experience in residential and investment, especially managing projects on rehab properties for my investor clients. Once the transaction is over, I will continue supporting you as your lifelong REALTOR® and friend.

Working with Jim and his team to sell my home was a great experience! He is very knowledgeable on the market, a very good communicator, and went above and beyond to get the most out of the home.

Beware of Jim Godwin! Perhaps he has self-posted his favorable reviews. This honest assessment, if included, will probably end up at the end of the list, but it is worth the read if it appears unedited. Dealing with Jim Godwin was by far, the worst, most convoluted transaction we have ever experienced. Not only did he refuse to meet with us personally, he shunned, avoided and ghosted the realtor we hired! He would not take her calls, would not return her messages and only referred her to a tedious online realty form which she (and we) had to fill out for any and all interaction. We were serious buyers wishing to purchase a specific property Jim Godwin (Loosely) represented. He put his sign in the yard, so we assumed it would be a regular buyer to seller situation. We made offers and sometimes he took weeks to get back to us. We have purchased, renovated, sold and even gifted many properties over the years. We are not investors. We do not buy to fix and flip, nor do we buy to rent. We purchase homes to make them accessible, safe and affordable for persons with developmental and/or physical disability/challenges. So when the property we wanted finally came onto the market after months of being vacant and in decline, we made honest and sensible offer after offer, each time having to re-fill out the form. It became reasonable to think it was a stall tactic and Godwin really didn’t want to sell at all. The property was to be sold “as is” and though we were offering cash, it took nearly half a year to get any kind of timely and valid response. It was never clear just who owned the property, though Godwin himself (through one of his occasional onsite workers) offered to buy the property and “lease” it back to us. We found out, but only after months, that Godwin was representing an out of state investor (in Arizona). We were required to wire the final agreed upon funds to a Wells Fargo Bank in California. The “Closing Coordinator” was in Pennsylvania, and the person responsible for recording the deed is in New York. There was never any person to person interaction. We are grateful that we have a conscientious and professional realtor who has been willing to navigate this exhausting and sometimes ridiculous deal.

Jim is a true 5 star realtor. He was invaluable throughout our whole home buying process: always going to bat for us while we worked through unforeseen challenges, providing amazing references for lenders & property managers, and always being available to answer our many questions—serving as both a teacher & a rock star realtor. He's knowledgeable about the local market, he's transparent & honest, and he's simply a good, genuine person. 10/10 would work with him again—and very much hope to in the near future!

I was so fortunate to find Jim and his team! Jim helped me find a contractor to help me finish out my flip project and then got my house sold receiving multiple offers in a weekend.
Jim is an amazing communicator and a great realtor can’t recommend him enough and will definitely continue to work with him in the future.

The absolute best realtor I have talked to. Instead of getting a bunch of pitches and houses to sell me, which is what I expected, Jim actually took the time to talk to me and find out what exactly I was looking for.
We ended up talking for quite a bit, and again, Jim did not try to sell a house the whole time and he actually gave me advice and told me to hold off on buying a house for a while. Once he took the time to get to know where I am at right now, he advised me to keep learning and thinking about whether this is the right area for me.
Jim walked me through multiple topics that I simply did not understand, such as financing. I appreciate his advice so much and if you want an honest agent that cares more about you and he does about selling, Jim is the realtor you are looking for.

I talked to a few agents in the area and Jim really stood out he really wanted to know my plan and the areas I was unsure about he helped guide me with his experience and knowledge of the area. His team was nothing but an asset for me. I was hesitant to leave a great review because it might mean I have to fight for his time with other people the next time I buy! But I would recommend him for anyone looking in the area you won’t be disappointed.

If you are fortunate enough to find Jim, go ahead and work with him. I feel very fortunate to have had him as my agent.
Jim is warm and caring, in person and over the phone. Working with him and his team is lovely. They have integrity and are professional. Jim goes out of his way to be of help, and make my life more pleasant.
After connecting several years ago and then losing touch, I was touched that he remembered our conversations and who I was.
So glad to have worked with Executive Asset Realty!
