How to Wake Up Earlier (& Actually Love It) in 5 Simple Steps

How to Wake Up Earlier (& Actually Love It) in 5 Simple Steps

Do you ever have the intention of waking up early and getting a fresh start on the day and then… you go back to bed?

You’re not alone. Tons of people intend to do the same but fail to follow through.

It’s definitely not easy to break the habit of hitting the snooze button or justifying to yourself why you need a little more shut eye. But it is possible.

A few years ago I made a conscious decision to wake up earlier every day. I discovered a step-by-step system that helped me completely change my morning routine.

How to Wake Up Earlier in 5 Simple Steps

It all comes down to six simple words: don’t let your brain make decisions.

Instead, if you want to wake up earlier consistently, do these five things:

  1. Set out your clothes the night before. Eliminate as many choices as possible in the morning.
  2. Write down your morning goals the night before. Define why you need to wake up early so there’s no question about the purpose of it.
  3. Get enough sleep. The more sleep you get, the better able you’ll be to accomplish your goal of waking up earlier.
  4. Move your alarm clock across the room. This forces you to stand and move, eliminating the choice of getting up and out of bed.
  5. Make your first task incredibly easy. The easiest ones for me are drinking a glass of water or brushing my teeth. Now that you’ve accomplished at least one task, you’re officially up and can move on to the next one.

Waking up doesn’t take a massive amount of control, the right genes, or an incredible super power. You just need to arm yourself with the right tools.
